To help patients and caregivers learn more about managing diabetes, Vassar Brothers Medical Center will offer a Living Well with Diabetes workshop from 6 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. for six consecutives Thursdays, beginning Sept. 14 in the hospital’s Conference Room C, at 45 Reade Place.

This workshop is open to the public and has no cost. Registration is required.

“Living with diabetes can be very challenging at times, but during this six-week workshop participants will learn how they can better manage this condition from the comfort of their home,” said Anne Rabbitt, the chief dietitian for the hospital’s parent organization, Health Quest.

“Our workshop is focused on establishing various self-management skills that can help participants live a happy, healthier life.”

During this six-week program, participants will engage in small, interactive group discussions led by Rabbitt, Jane Bilello, registered nurse and care manager for the Health Quest Medical Practice Millbrook and LaGrangeville primary care offices, and Virginia Cambalik, a registered dietitian with Vassar Brothers Medical Center.

Participants will discuss and develop self-management skills such as:
• Appropriate exercise for improving and maintaining overall health.
• Healthy eating.
• Appropriate use of medication.
• How to monitor blood sugar.
• Effective communication with physicians and medical staff

Valet parking is available.
