Vassar Brothers Medical Center kicks off capital campaign for patient pavilion

Posted: 10/2/2018

The Foundation for Vassar Brothers Medical Center launched its $25 million capital campaign, designed to support the $545 million patient pavilion under construction on the medical center’s campus.

Campaign chairman Robert Dyson made the announcement at the foundation’s annual Diamond Gala on Saturday, Sept. 15.

Before the public launch, $12.5 million, approximately half the goal, in gifts and pledges were committed.

Dyson promised a $5 million gift from the Dyson Foundation on the condition the community successfully contributes another $10 million within the next 12 months.

“This historic project is the most significant contribution to our region’s health and well-being,” Dyson said. “It deserves the support of everyone in the community who depend on quality healthcare.”

Early gifts include an extraordinary $1 million gift from the physicians of The Heart Center, led by Dr. Simon Gorwara, a cardiologist.

“The Heart Center physicians are very pleased to show our commitment to the community in such a meaningful way,” Gorwara said. “The new patient pavilion will make a difference in the lives of our patients and will raise the standard of medical care in the Hudson Valley. We look forward to contributing to that change – financially with this gift, but also with our clinical skills, how we care for our patients and, of course, with all our ‘heart.’ ”

In addition to The Heart Center and the Dyson Foundation, other truly outstanding gifts received early in the campaign were presented by Royal Carting Company and former medical center board member John O’Shea.
