The Dyson Center for Cancer Care at Vassar Brothers Medical Center will host a “Freedom From Smoking” program starting in May.

The eight-session program is through the American Lung Association and is meant to help smokers address the physical, mental and social aspects of their habit.

Participants will learn about medications that can help them quit, lifestyle changes to make quitting easier, preparing for quit day, managing stress and avoiding weight gain.

The American Lung Association says “Freedom from Smoking” was ranked the most effective smoking cessation program by a Fordham University Graduate School of Business study. Participants are six times more likely to remain smoke-free one year later than those who quit on their own, according to the American Lung Association.

The eight sessions start May 19 from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Dyson Center, third floor, 45 Reade Place. The remaining sessions are May 26, June 2, 9, 11, 16, 23 and 30.

For more information and/or to register, call 845-483-6920. There is a $25 registration fee.
