Thompson House celebrates Nursing Home Week with weeklong bash

Posted: 5/27/2015

A week long bash was held at the Thompson House residential and rehabilitative care facility in Rhinebeck to celebrate National Nursing Home Week, May 10-16. An international theme was chosen by the Resident Council. Members teamed up with staff and planned activities that highlighted different cultures such as: a sombrero hat relay, a pizza dough toss, blindfolded chopsticks rice race, a pie-eating contest and more. Village Pizza and Restaurant of Rhinebeck donated several pizza pies during the Italian-themed day. “To us, the week was about appreciating the importance of being connected to our elders and creating a rewarding workplace for our dedicated staff,” Thompson House Administrator Elaine Trott said. “We should always recognize and celebrate the wisdom and value of older adults in our communities.” Nursing Home Week is an annual observance sponsored by the American Health Care Association, based in Washington, D.C. The Thompson House is a nonprofit, 100-bed skilled nursing center on the campus of Northern Dutchess Hospital. For information, visit
