Putnam Hospital Center President Peter Kelly met with Putnam residents, leaders and elected officials Thursday morning at the Putnam County Golf Course for his third annual State of the Hospital Breakfast.

More than 50 community members attended the event to hear updates from Kelly on Putnam Hospital Center and the changes and additions being made at the system level.

“As a major provider of healthcare and employment in Putnam County, it’s important to keep all of the various agencies we work with and constituents we serve well informed about our continuing progress,” Kelly said.

The presentation highlighted growing service lines, including the recent addition of three cardiologists from The Heart Center, a division of Hudson Valley Cardiovascular Practice, PC, an affiliate of Health Quest. Cardiologist Dr. Anthony Messina spoke about the variety of advanced cardiac services now available to patients at Putnam Hospital Center.

Kelly focused on three topics including the addition of a graduate education program that will see its first crop of medical residents begin on July 1. Putnam Hospital Center will join in this network-wide transformation with the launch of the internal and family medicine residency programs this summer.

Kelly also spoke of the planned opening of the Marist Health Quest School of Medicine. This pioneering collaboration between Marist College and Health Quest will change the academic and healthcare landscape in the mid-Hudson Valley and will be among 152 MD-granting schools of medicine in the nation. The medical school will be located on the Vassar Brothers Medical Center campus in Poughkeepsie and is set to open in 2022.

Kelly concluded the breakfast with a discussion on Health Quest and Western Connecticut Health Network combining to form a new system, Nuvance Health that will provide residents across New York’s Hudson Valley and western Connecticut with more convenient, accessible, affordable care close to home. This new health system will include seven hospitals, 1,500 beds, more than 12,300 employees, 2,600 aligned physicians and serve more than 1.5 million residents in two states.
