Nuvance Health Community Education announces training programs for September

September classes are as follows:

Babysitting Preparedness Course
Saturday, Sept. 7, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Northern Dutchess Hospital, Rhinebeck, NY
Cost $50; call 845-475-9742 to register
The course covers feeding, diapering, safety in the home, prevention of sudden infant death syndrome, prevention of shaken baby syndrome, basic first aid skills, how to cope with a crying baby, pediatric CPR and how to start a babysitting business. The course is led by nationally certified instructors who also have experience as emergency responders in both professional and community environments. This class is most popular among teens, but we have also had many expecting parents and grandparents take the course so they are well-prepared to handle their little ones with proper love and care. This course is for ages 12 to adult. Successful completion of the course will result in a two-year certification from the American Safety and Health Institute. Preregistration and payment are required. Students must bring lunch to class. Seating is limited.

Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) Renewal Course
Saturday, Sept. 8, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Cost: $165 (includes textbook), $125 (excludes text)

This is a recertification of the ACLS course. You must have an ACLS certification to take this course. Completion results in a two-year ACLS certification from the American Heart Association. A textbook (March 2016 edition of AHA ACLS) is required and AHA allows students to use the textbook when taking the written exam. You will be required to do a pre-course assessment in the text. For ages 18 and up. Preregistration and payment are required.

American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) Provider Renewal Course
Tuesday, Sept. 10, 5:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.
Vassar Brothers Medical Center, Poughkeepsie, NY
Cost: $75 (includes textbook), $60 (excludes text).

The AHA’s BLS Provider Renewal Course is designed for those who are currently certified and need to renew an existing BLS certification. This abridged renewal course is for experienced providers. It teaches both single-rescuer and team basic life support skills for application in both pre-hospital and in-facility environments, with a focus on high-quality CPR and team dynamics. Course completion results in a certification card valid for two years from the American Heart Association. Current textbook required. Preregistration and payment are required. Class size is limited.<

Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) Renewal Course
Saturday, Sept. 14, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Sharon Hospital, Sharon, Conn.
Cost: $165 (includes textbook), $125 (excludes text)

This course is a recertification for the Pediatric Advanced Life Support course. You must be certified in PALS to take this abridged course. Course completion results in a two-year PALS certification card from the American Heart Association. You will be required to do a pre-course assessment in the text. A textbook (2016 Edition of AHA PALS) is required and AHA allows students to use the textbook when taking the written exam. For ages 18 and up. Preregistration and payment are required.

American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) Provider Certification

This class is appropriate for new or recertifying students that have experience in CPR. The textbook is required (February 2016 AHA BLS) and AHA allows students to use it when taking the written exam. This course is designed to provide a wide variety of healthcare professionals with the ability to recognize several life-threatening emergencies, provide CPR, use an automated external defibrillator and relieve choking in a safe, timely and effective manner. Course completion results in a certification card from the AHA valid for two years. For ages 16 to adult. Preregistration and payment are required.

This course covers basic first aid, CPR techniques, maneuvers for choking victims and how to use an automated external defibrillator. Instruction provided for adult, child and infant. This course is suitable for day care workers, construction workers, camp counselors and many other community professions. Course completion results in a certification card valid for two years from the AHA. Preregistration and payment are required. Class size is limited. Textbook and materials included.
