Northern Dutchess Hospital earns 2nd consecutive ‘A’ safety grade from healthcare watchdog

Posted: 5/4/2020

Northern Dutchess Hospital recently earned an “A” in safety from The Leapfrog Group – an independent national watchdog committed to healthcare quality and safety.

The grades assess how well the hospital prevents medical errors and other harm to patients, according to The Leapfrog Group.

“We are proud to be honored by this prestigious distinction that is the direct result of our caregivers’ excellence and commitment to extraordinary care every day,” said Denise George, president of Northern Dutchess Hospital.

The Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade is a letter grade assigned to more than 2,600 hospitals across the country. The grade is updated every six months in the spring and fall. Northern Dutchess also received an “A” grade in the fall.

Developed under the guidance of a national expert panel, the safety grade uses up to 28 measures of publicly available hospital safety data to assign grades to acute-care hospitals. The methodology is peer-reviewed and transparent, with results available at hospitalsafetygrade.org.

“As the nation copes with a challenging pandemic, our gratitude extends to hospital leadership and healthcare workers everywhere for their tremendous dedication,” said Leah Binder, president and CEO of The Leapfrog Group. “We hope this ‘A’ helps to thank the people who work and volunteer at Northern Dutchess Hospital. They are role models in putting patients first, and their service has been extraordinary in our country’s time of need.”
