Northern Dutchess Hospital’s weight loss surgery program recently achieved Comprehensive Center status by the Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery Accreditation and Quality Improvement Program under the American College of

Surgeons and the American Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery.

As a Comprehensive Center, the hospital met essential criteria for staffing, training and facility infrastructure and protocols for care, ensuring its ability to support patients, according to the accrediting agency. Northern Dutchess

Hospital also participates in a national data registry that yields semiannual reports on the quality of its weight loss surgery processes and outcomes, identifying opportunities for continuous quality improvement.

“It was always our goal to earn this accreditation as soon as we became eligible and we’re proud of this achievement,” said Dr. Brian Binetti, a Health Quest Medical Practice general surgeon who launched the hospital’s weight loss surgery program in April 2017. “Metabolic surgery is about setting up patients for life-changing long-term success – and we’re proud of the work we do at Northern Dutchess Hospital.”

“The care provided by Dr. Binetti and Dr. Meytes, our two HQMP bariatric surgeons, to our community is truly tremendous,” said Dr. John Sabia, vice president of medical affairs at Northern Dutchess Hospital. “They are skilled physicians supported by a surgical services department that puts patients first. We are pleased to offer patients the benefits of a Comprehensive Center.”

In the United States, around 15.5 million people have severe obesity, according to the National Institutes of Health, and the numbers continue to increase. Northern Dutchess offers minimally invasive gastric bypass, sleeve and band surgeries, which change the anatomy of the digestive system to decrease hunger, absorb fewer calories and burn fat more quickly.
