Monthly diabetes education series continues Aug. 25

Dr. Francine Brooks will lecture on the impact diabetes has on wound healing at 5 p.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 25, as part of a monthly diabetes education series sponsored by the Vassar Brothers Wound Care and Hyperbaric Medicine Center.

The community benefit lecture will last one hour in Conference Room B at Vassar Brothers Medical Center, 45 Reade Place, Poughkeepsie. Parking is free in the hospital’s visitor parking garage or attendees can use the free valet service at the main entrance.

Brooks is the co-director of the Vassar Brothers Wound Care and Hyperbaric Medicine Center. Previously, she served as the medical director of Hyperbaric Services at Bronx Municipal Hospital Center. Brooks has been on the medical staff at Vassar Brothers Medical Center since 1993 and was the recipient of the Physician of Excellence Award in 2012 from the Hudson Valley EMS Council.

Brooks received her medical degree from Albert Einstein College of Medicine in the Bronx. She did her postgraduate work in emergency medicine at Bronx Municipal Hospital Center and in internal medicine at St. Luke’s-Roosevelt Hospital Center in New York City.

The diabetes education series continues on the fourth Tuesday of every month. Dr. Andreas Spirig of The Vascular Group will speak on Sept. 22.
