Log fitness, win prizes during the spring Get Fit Challenge

Posted: 4/22/2019

Track fitness for prize eligibility, compete to stay motivated and achieve health goals with the Get Fit Challenge from April 27 to June 8.

The six-week challenge is a community wellness program founded five years ago by Vassar Brothers Medical Center in Poughkeepsie, NY, Northern Dutchess Hospital in Rhinebeck, NY, Putnam Hospital Center in Carmel, NY, and Sharon Hospital in Sharon, Conn. Prizes include a spa package for two, sporting goods and Get Fit apparel.

“Get Fit is always something I look forward to, especially because I train with four certified working German Shepherds who are full of energy,” said Frances Vaccaro, a LaGrange, NY,  resident who is training to be a firefighter. “They require lots of exercise and that I eat well and maintain a fit lifestyle.”

There is no cost to take the challenge and set up a profile at WeGetFit.org for logging activities online. The website keeps track of workouts and automatically enters the participant into prize raffles. The more sessions logged, the higher value the prizes. Six winners are chosen each challenge.

People can work out at any of the 180 check-in fitness locations in the mid-Hudson Valley and northwest Connecticut. All type of physical activity at eligible gyms, parks, rail trails and nature preserves count. Or, there are weekly workout routines on WeGetFit.org that can be done anywhere, anytime.

“Get Fit has always proven to me a great way to train for both myself and my dogs,” Vaccaro said. “Over the course of two years, I lost 51 pounds and kept it off!”

Last year, nearly 16,500 fitness entries were logged in the spring and fall challenges — a record number since Get Fit launched in 2014 as Health Quest’s Walkway Fitness Challenge.

Health Quest and Western Connecticut Health Network have combined to form a new nonprofit health system to be named Nuvance Health. The new health system was created to provide communities across New York’s Hudson Valley and western Connecticut with more convenient, accessible and affordable care.
