Health Quest sponsors Dutchess County’s A Matter of Balance programs

Posted: 2/9/2018

The Dutchess County Office for the Aging is looking for older adults who want to attend an evidence-based fall prevention program called “A Matter of Balance.”

This award-winning program, sponsored by Health Quest, reduces participants’ fear of falling and increases their physical activity levels, which promotes healthy aging and strong bones.

Participants learn to:

  • View falls and fear of falling as controllable
  • Set realistic goals for increasing activity.
  • Change their environment to reduce fall risk factors.
  • Promote exercise to increase strength and balance.

The program is held in various county locations throughout the year. The class meets for two hours, twice weekly for one month.

Since 2016, Health Quest has sponsored the aging office’s balance program. The healthcare system also hosts a session in the fall at Northern Dutchess Hospital in Rhinebeck and provides the volunteer instructors. Health Quest’s goal is to help reduce injuries caused by falls and unsafe home environments, a commitment made in the system’s 2017-19 Community Service Plan.
