Health Quest names assistant vice president of surgical specialties

Posted: 7/10/2017

Dr. Mark Hirko has joined the Health Quest Medical Practice Division of General Surgery as the assistant vice president of surgical specialties.

“My goal is to provide patients with high standards of safety and care while improving patient access to the latest surgical techniques and developing surgical and medical education in the Hudson Valley,” Hirko said.

His responsibilities include coordinating and standardizing Health Quest Medical Practice surgical services throughout the system, developing undergraduate and post-graduate surgical education programs, including a general surgery residency, and collaborating with senior administration and physician leadership to continue to provide advanced care and service across the system.

“As we continue to build a physician-led culture within our medical practice, the addition of Dr. Mark Hirko brings an experienced leader to our surgical specialty division,” said Glenn Loomis, chief medical operations officer for Health Quest and president of Health Quest Medical Practice. “Mark is acknowledged as an excellent leader, clinician and teacher. His leadership will allow us to grow with a continuing focus on excellence.”

An Ohio native with more than 20 years of experience in surgery, Hirko previously held the position of chairman of the department of surgery and medical director of the vascular program and vascular lab at Monmouth Medical Center, part of Barnabas Health System, in Long Branch, N.J.

As chairman, he served as the clinical and administrative leader of the department and oversaw more than 200 employees.

He completed his internship and residency in general surgery at Akron City Hospital in Akron, Ohio, and later served as a clinical and research fellow in vascular surgery at Loyola University Medical Center in Maywood, Ill. He earned his medical degree from Wright State University in Dayton, Ohio, and received his master’s degree in biology from the University of Akron.
