Health Quest Community Education announces training programs for May

American Heart Association Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) Provider Course
Saturday, May 4, 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.
Sharon Hospital, Sharon, Conn.

This course uses a scenario-based, team approach to teach pediatric emergency respiratory and cardiac arrest management. This course is for healthcare providers who initiate and direct advanced life support in pediatric emergencies. You must be currently certified as a BLS Healthcare Provider to take this course. Course completion results in a two-year PALS certification from the American Heart Association. You will be required to do a pre-course assessment in the text as well. For ages 18 and up. Preregistration and payment are required. Class size is limited. Text included.

American Heart Association Heartsaver First Aid CPR AED techniques for Adult, Child & Infant
Saturday, May 4
Northern Dutchess Hospital, Rhinebeck, NY
First Aid & CPR AED Combo Course: 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
CPR AED only, 8:30 a.m. to 1 p.m.
First Aid only, 1:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m.

This course covers basic first aid, CPR techniques, maneuvers for choking victims and how to use an automated external defibrillator. Instruction provided for adult, child and infant. This course is suitable for day care workers, construction workers, camp counselors and many other community professions. Course completion results in a certification card valid for two years from the AHA. Preregistration and payment are required.  Class size is limited. Textbooks and materials included.

American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) Provider Renewal Course

The AHA’s BLS Provider Renewal Course is designed for those who are currently certified and need to renew an existing BLS certification. This abridged renewal course is for experienced providers. It teaches both single-rescuer and team basic life support skills for application in both pre-hospital and in-facility environments, with a focus on high-quality CPR and team dynamics. Course completion results in a certification card valid for two years from the American Heart Association. Current textbook required. Preregistration and payment are required. Class size is limited.

Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) Renewal Course

This is a recertification of the ACLS course. You must have an ACLS certification to take this course. Completion results in a two-year ACLS certification from the American Heart Association. A textbook (March 2016 edition of AHA ACLS) is required and AHA allows students to use the textbook when taking the written exam. You will be required to do a pre-course assessment in the text as well. For ages 18 and up. Preregistration and payment are required.

This class is appropriate for new or recertifying students that have experience in CPR. The textbook is required (February 2016 AHA BLS) and AHA allows students to use it when taking the written exam. This course is designed to provide a wide variety of healthcare professionals with the ability to recognize several life-threatening emergencies, provide CPR, use an automated external defibrillator and relieve choking in a safe, timely and effective manner. Course completion results in a certification card from the AHA valid for two years. For ages 16 to adult. Preregistration and payment are required.

The Heartsaver Pediatric First Aid CPR AED course is designed to meet the regulatory requirements for child care workers in all 50 states. It teaches child care providers and others to respond to and manage illnesses and injuries in a child or infant in the first few minutes until professional help arrives. It covers the four steps of first aid and first aid skills, such as finding the problem, stopping bleeding, bandaging and using an Epinephrine pen. Child CPR AED, infant CPR and a module in adult CPR AED and Asthma Care Training for Child Care Providers are also included in this program. Successful completion results in a certification card valid for two years. Preregistration and payment are required.

This course covers basic first aid, CPR and disaster preparedness for dogs and cats. Participants will practice the hands-on skills of CPR on lifelike pet mannequins. Course completion results in a two-year certification from the Emergency Care and Safety Institute. For ages 14 to adult. Preregistration and payment are required. Seating is limited.
