American Heart Association Heartsaver First Aid CPR AED techniques for Adult, Child & Infant
Saturday, April 6
Vassar Brothers Medical Center, Poughkeepsie, NY
First Aid and CPR AED Combo Course: 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Cost: $75 (includes text).
CPR AED only: 8:30 a.m. to 1 p.m.; First Aid only, 1:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m.
Cost: $75 (Combo Course only), $60 (CPR AED only), $60 (First Aid only)

This course covers basic first aid, CPR techniques, maneuvers for choking victims and how to use an automated external defibrillator. Instruction provided for adult, child and infant. This course is suitable for day care workers, construction workers, camp counselors and many other community professions. Course completion results in a certification card valid for two years from the AHA. Preregistration and payment are required.  Class size is limited. Textbook and materials included.

American Heart Association Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) Provider Course

Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support is an advanced, instructor-led classroom course that highlights the importance of team dynamics and communication, systems of care and immediate post-cardiac-arrest care. It also covers airway management and related pharmacology. In this course, skills are taught in large group sessions and small group learning and testing stations where case-based scenarios are presented. You must have a current BLS certification to take this course. Course completion results in a two-year ACLS certification from the American Heart Association. You will be required to do a pre-course assessment in the text as well. For ages 18 and up. Preregistration and payment are required.

American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) Provider Certification

This class is appropriate for new or recertifying students that have experience in CPR. The textbook is required (February 2016 AHA BLS) and AHA allows students to use it when taking the written exam. This course is designed to provide a wide variety of healthcare professionals with the ability to recognize several life-threatening emergencies, provide CPR, use an automated external defibrillator and relieve choking in a safe, timely and effective manner. Course completion results in a certification card from the AHA valid for two years. For ages 16 to adult. Preregistration and payment are required.

The AHA’s BLS Provider Renewal Course is designed for those who are currently certified and need to renew an existing BLS certification. This abridged renewal course is for experienced providers. It teaches both single-rescuer and team basic life support skills for application in both pre-hospital and in-facility environments, with a focus on high-quality CPR and team dynamics. Course completion results in a certification card valid for two years from the American Heart Association. Current textbook required. Preregistration and payment are required. Class size is limited.

Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) Renewal Course

This course is a recertification for the PALS course. You must be certified in PALS to take this abridged course. A textbook (2016 Edition of AHA PALS) is required and AHA allows students to use the textbook when taking the written exam. Age 18 and up. Preregistration and payment are required.

The American Heart Association’s Family & Friends CPR Course is a video-based, classroom course intended for anyone who wants to learn CPR techniques for treating adult, child and infants and prefer an instructor-led or facilitated group environment. This class is ideal for community groups, parents, grandparents, caregivers, schools and students, and others interested in learning how to save a life. This course is for people who do not need a certification card for a job or other requirements. For ages 10 to adult. Preregistration and payment are required. Class size is limited.

Babysitting Preparedness Course Saturday, April 27, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Sharon Hospital in Sharon, Conn.

The course covers feeding, diapering, safety in the home, prevention of sudden infant death syndrome, prevention of shaken baby syndrome, basic first aid skills, how to cope with a crying baby, pediatric CPR and how to start a babysitting business. The course is led by nationally certified instructors who also have experience as emergency responders in both professional and community environments. This class is ideal for teenagers, expecting parents and grandparents. Successful completion of the course will result in a two-year certification from the American Safety and Health Institute. For ages 12 to adult. Preregistration and payment are required. Seating is limited. Students must bring lunch to class.

Pet First Aid, CPR and Disaster Preparedness Course
Sunday, April 28, 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.

This course covers basic first aid, CPR and disaster preparedness for dogs and cats. Participants will practice the hands-on skills of CPR on lifelike pet mannequins.
