Health Quest Community Education announces training programs for April

American Heart Association Heartsaver First Aid CPR AED Combination Course
Saturday, April 7, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Vassar Brothers Medical Center, Poughkeepsie, NY
Cost $65; call 845-475-9742 to register
This course covers basic first aid, CPR techniques, maneuvers for choking victims and how to use an automated external defibrillator. Instruction provided for adult, child and infant. Textbook and materials included. This course is suitable for day care workers, construction workers, camp counselors and many other community professions. Course completion results in a certification card valid for two years from the AHA. For ages 14 to adult. Preregistration and payment are required.

Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) Renewal Course
Sunday, April 8, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Putnam Hospital Center, Carmel, NY
Cost $125; $165 with text; call 845-475-9742 to register
This is a recertification of the ACLS course. You must have an ACLS certification to take this course. Completion results in a two-year ACLS certification from the American Heart Association. A textbook (March 2016 edition of AHA ACLS) is required and AHA allows students to use the textbook when taking the written exam. You will be required to do a pre-course assessment in the text as well. The class is for students ages 18 and up. Preregistration and payment are required.

ECG & Pharmacology Course
Sunday, April 8, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

This classroom-based, facilitator-led course is designed to improve electrocardiogram (ECG) recognition skills and pharmacology knowledge for treating cardiovascular emergencies. For ages 18 and up. Preregistration and payment are required.

American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) Provider Certification
Tuesday, April 10, 5:30 to 9:30 p.m.
Vassar Brothers Medical Center, Poughkeepsie, NY

This class is appropriate for new or recertifying students. The textbook is required (February 2016 AHA BLS) and AHA allows students to use the textbook when taking the written exam. This course is designed to provide a wide variety of healthcare professionals with the ability to recognize several life-threatening emergencies, provide CPR, use an automated external defibrillator and relieve choking in a safe, timely and effective manner. Course completion results in a certification card from the AHA valid for two years. The course is for students ages 16 to adult. Preregistration and payment are required.

Wilderness First Aid
Saturday and Sunday, April 14-15, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. each day
Sharon Hospital, Sharon, Conn.
Cost $150 includes text; call 845-475-9742 to register
This hands-on course is designed for trip leaders, camp staff, outdoor enthusiasts, hikers, kayakers, guides, Scout leaders and others working in remote locations. It focuses on caring for people who may become ill or injured far from medical care. Participants learn to create makeshift items to assist with immobilization, bleeding control and other medical necessities. Course completion results in certification in Wilderness First Aid by the Emergency Care & Safety Institute. This course does not include CPR. This course meets Boy Scouts of America guidelines. The course is for students ages 16 to adult. Preregistration and payment are required.

This course covers basic first aid, CPR and disaster preparedness for dogs and cats. You practice the hands-on skills of CPR on lifelike, furry pet mannequins. Course completion results in a two-year certification from the Emergency Care & Safety Institute. For ages 14 to adult. Preregistration and payment are required.
