General Surgeon Dr. Pranat Kumar joins Health Quest Medical Practice

Dr. Pranat Kumar will join Health Quest Medical Practice in its Division of General Surgery on Aug. 1.

Kumar will work out of the HQMP General Surgery offices in Poughkeepsie, 21 Reade Place, suite 3100, and Rhinebeck, 6511 Spring Brook Ave., suite 101.

Kumar received his medical degree from the University of Alabama School of Medicine and a masters of public health in epidemiology from George Washington University.

He completed his general surgery residency at New York University Medical Center and Bellevue Hospital. He also completed a fellowship in colon and rectal surgery from St. Luke’s — Roosevelt Hospital Center, a teaching affiliate of Columbia University.

“I am looking forward to joining Health Quest Medical Practice and to serving the community as part of an organization that I feel is making great strides toward advancing healthcare in the Hudson Valley,” Kumar said.

Kumar has been in practice in the Hudson Valley since 2012. He has interests in robotic and minimally invasive surgery for the treatment of colon cancer, rectal cancer, Crohn's disease, ulcerative colitis and diverticulitis.

Kumar holds board certifications in general surgery and colon and rectal surgery. He has extensive research experience and has been published in several medical journals.
