The Putnam Hospital Center Farmers Market returns this year on June 6, offering a bigger selection of fresh, affordable produce to the community. The seasonal market is open to the public from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. every Thursday through October on the hospital campus. The market is located around the flagpole near the front entrance to the hospital. Skin cancer is the most common form of cancer in the U.S., with more than 9,500 Americans diagnosed each day, according to the American Academy of Dermatology. When breast cancer patients have surgery at Putnam Hospital Center, they receive a soft, handmade pillow thanks to a woman who knows what it’s like to be in their place. Maria Giewat, of Somers, had breast surgery at Putnam Hospital Center in 2016 and a friend, she said, had given her a pillow to ease her pain.
