• Focused on your quality of life during serious illness

Supportive Care Medicine is specialized care designed to help you achieve the best possible quality of life during serious illness. Your Supportive Care team may include physicians, nurse practitioners, nurses, social workers, chaplains and other professionals as required for your unique circumstances. Depending on your needs, your Supportive Care team may also include experienced clinicians with backgrounds in emergency medicine, family medicine, functional medicine, internal medicine, geriatrics or holistic care.

The team works with your primary care physician or treating physician to develop a personalized, family-centered treatment plan based on your values, hopes and goals. Your treatment plan can involve:

    • Education about your illness and what to expect
    • Communication and decision-making assistance
    • A comprehensive approach to care for the mind, body and spirit
    • Support for coping and a safe haven to explore emotional issues
    • Management of illness symptoms or treatment of side effects
    • Complementary care techniques such as guided imagery, Reiki, meditation and Healing Touch

Dedicated support for you and your family

Over the course of your illness, your Supportive Care Medicine team will bring strength, support and comfort to you and your family. Research has shown that patients receiving early supportive care reported better quality of life, less depression and, in some cases, longer survival.
