With Sun-filled Rooms and a Dedicated Staff, Health Quest Makes Chemotherapy as Comfortable an Experience as Possible.

Infusion therapy, which includes chemotherapy, can be a nerve-wracking experience as it is the administration of medication through a needle or catheter. Typically, “infusion therapy” means that a drug is administered intravenously, but infused drugs, blood and blood products can be provided through other routes, including intramuscular injections and epidurals. Health Quest does everything possible to make you as relaxed as possible.

Advanced Practice Nurse Expertise Within a Calm Environment

Health Quest is proud to have on staff an oncology certified advanced practice nurse (APRN) with a doctorate in nursing practice. The APRN works alongside the physician, providing treatment, documenting outcomes and improving both the quality and efficiency of care.

Infusion therapy takes place at our calm and soothing infusion centers, which are fully accredited by the American College of Surgeons Commission on Cancer.

Each infusion center has a low nurse-to-patient ratio to ensure each patient receives plenty of attention. All nurses are oncology certified with specialized training as chemotherapy and biotherapy providers.

Infusion Therapy Treatments

Medical oncologists work closely with surgeons and radiation oncologists to determine the type of therapy needed, how often to administer it and oversee your care throughout the process.

Our infusion therapies include:

  • Chemotherapy is the use of medication to destroy cancer cells. Sometimes the medications are in liquid form and are given through a needle. Other medications are taken in pill form. Chemotherapy medications are diffused throughout the body, so they can be used to eradicate cancer cells anywhere. Uses include presurgical therapy to shrink tumors as well as post-surgery therapy to reduce the chance that any cancer cells remain. Chemotherapy also may be used as a precaution after treatment in an attempt to minimize the risk of cancer recurrence.
  • Biotherapy is the therapeutic use of living organisms or substances derived from them. Some biotherapies for cancer involve the use of vaccines or bacteria to stimulate the body’s immune system. Others include antibodies or segments of genetic material (RNA or DNA) that can be used to target cancer cells directly.
  • Breast and Gynecologic Oncology Treatment Services are provided prior to and the day of your surgery. At the presurgical testing visit, the nurse assesses you and explains what to expect post-operatively.

Whatever your treatment, a customized binder is prepared for you with drug information, side-effect management, record keeping, financial, nutritional and support information.

Beyond Cancer

Besides cancer, infusion therapies are also used to treat a wide variety of other medical conditions including cardiac diseases, anemia, multiple sclerosis, arthritis, osteoporosis, Lyme disease and other infections.

Oncology Clinical Pharmacy Specialist

Health Quest infusion centers have an oncology clinical pharmacy specialist on staff. This specialist is a pharm D (doctorate degree in pharmacy) and board certified. Because of the complexity of the medications and protocols being used, the pharmacy specialist maintains a knowledge base of current and evidence-based practices as well as patient-specific medication records. The pharmacy specialist monitors the prescribing of chemotherapy and other medication and assists in managing side effects secondary to treatment.
