General Support Groups

  • Caregiver Support Group: For caregivers of loved ones with cancer. Available every 2nd Wednesday of the month 11 am – 12 pm. Please call to register (845) 483-6470.
  • Eating Healthy for Oncology Patients: For more information please contact a Registered Dietician at (845) 214-7384.
  • Metastatic Cancer Support Group: Provides an opportunity to connect with others, express your feelings and ask questions. Available every 4th Wednesday of the month from 1-2 pm. Please call to register (845) 483-6470.
  • Newly Diagnosed Support Group: For people recently diagnosed with cancer, an opportunity to receive support, education and hear others' perspectives concerning the change in their health status. Facilitated by our oncology social workers. Available every 3rd Tuesday of the month from 1-2 pm. Please call to register (845) 483-6470.
  • Laryngectomy Support Group: Helps patients and family members manage issues related to laryngectomy. Facilitated by trained speech therapists. Meets the first Thursday of each month from 11:00 am to noon at VBMC. Please call the Physical Therapy department for more information: (845) 483-7391.
  • Lymphedema Support Group: For anyone living with or at risk of developing lymphedema. Facilitated by trained physical therapists specializing in lymphedema. Availability varies; please call the Physical Therapy department for upcoming dates and times at (845) 871-4380.
  • Look Good Feel Better: Helps people diagnosed with cancer and undergoing treatment with cosmetic issues and hair loss. Facilitated by the American Cancer Society. Dates vary, please call for availability (800) 227-2345.
  • Ostomy Support: Professional support and advice for ostomates and the parents of ostomates regarding ostomy care, diet, nutrition and updates on the latest equipment.

  • Road to Recovery: Sponsored by the American Cancer Society, this program connects patients with volunteer drivers who help them travel to and from cancer appointments. For more information, please call (800) 227-2345.
  • Side-by-Side: Offers support to wives and friends of those diagnosed with prostate cancer. Sponsored by the American Cancer Society. For more information, please call (800) 227-2345.

Breast Cancer Support Groups

  • Breast and Ovarian Cancer Support Group: For women with breast, ovarian or gynecological cancer, who discuss all stages of diagnosis and treatment and post-treatment. Facilitated by Support Connection and run by a trained facilitator and cancer survivor. Meets 4th Thursday of every month from 7pm to 9pm. Please call to register (914) 962-6402.

  • Young Breast Cancer Survivor Group: For people under 45 diagnosed with breast cancer, who can explore their feelings and issues surrounding this diagnosis. Facilitated by Breast Cancer Options and run by a trained group leader. Available the 1st Tuesday of each month from 6-7:30PM held at VBMC in conf. room B. Please call to register: (845) 339-4673.
