Posted: 8/8/2017

To help patients identify hospitals that provide exceptional care, U.S. News & World Report released its Best Hospitals results on Tuesday with Vassar Brothers Medical Center, Northern Dutchess Hospital and Putnam Hospital Center ranked as "high performing" in three specialty categories.

In an evaluation of more than 4,500 hospitals across the United States, Vassar Brothers earned high marks for heart failure and heart bypass surgery, while Northern Dutchess and Putnam received recognition for hip replacement.

"We are pleased U.S. News & World Report recognized what we have known for a long time: The premier cardiology program in the mid-Hudson Valley is at Vassar Brothers Medical Center," said Dr. Daniel O'Dea, vice president of Cardiovascular Services for the hospital's parent organization, Health Quest. "Our staff is proud of the excellent and compassionate cardiology care our patients and their families receive."

"No one wants to have a hip replaced, but by choosing Northern Dutchess Hospital, patients can rest assured they are receiving great care," said Dr. John Sabia, vice president of Medical Affairs for the Rhinebeck-based hospital.

"Putnam Hospital Center is very proud of the outstanding outcomes of our hip replacement program and to be recognized as a high performer," said Dr. Lawrence Schek, the hospital's vice president of Medical Affairs. "All members of our orthopedic team work tirelessly in order to ensure high-quality results for our patients."

Best Hospitals rankings help guide patients to facilities that deliver outstanding care across several specialties, procedures and conditions. The rankings were determined by health care quality measures such as infection rates, quality of nursing care, patient experience and more.

For 2017-18, 146 hospitals were ranked in at least one specialty. In rankings by state and metro area, U.S. News recognized hospitals that were high performing across multiple areas of care.

Best Hospitals was produced by U.S. News with RTI International, a research organization based in Research Triangle Park, N.C. Rankings will be published in the U.S. News "Best Hospitals 2018" guidebook and can be viewed online at health.usnews.com/best-hospitals
