Transcatheter Aortic Valve Replacement (TAVR)
Vassar Brothers Medical Center is the first and only provider in the Mid-Hudson Valley to offer transcatheter aortic valve replacement (TAVR), a cutting-edge minimally invasive procedure that can restore quality of life for individuals with critical aortic stenosis (narrowing of a valve) who, due to age or disease, are not candidates for open-heart surgical aortic valve replacement.
Similar to a stent placed in an artery, the TAVR approach delivers a fully collapsible replacement valve to the site through a catheter. An advantage of TAVR is that clinicians can access the diseased aortic valve using several different avenues as dictated by the patient's anatomy. This minimally invasive approach enables the surgeon to replace the valve without opening the chest, resulting in a more rapid recovery than a traditional, open-heart valve replacement.
Cardio-Oncology, Unique to the Mid-Hudson Valley
We're always looking for new ways to provide integrated care. That's why we developed the Cardio-Oncology program, an integrated approach to treating cancer and its effect on your heart. Cardiovascular specialists from The Heart Center work together with oncology specialists, from the Dyson Center for Cancer Care to maximize cardiovascular outcomes during and after cancer treatment. It's the first program of its kind in the Mid-Hudson Valley.
